¡¡ Essay questions often begin: Compare and contrast ... To compare is to show how two or more things are similar; to contrast is to show how they are different. In reality, if asked to compare you can still contrast, and vice-versa. Or, you can simply do both. However, you should state what you intend to do clearly in the introduction so as not to confuse the reader. For a compare and contrast essay you first need to identify a list of how many similar and/or different points you intend to discuss, and then you need to explain how they are similar and/or different. For the most basic of essays, consider three items.
