Similar in nature to the argumentative essay, persuasive writing can be more informal and opinionated. Persuasive writing is designed to try and change the readers mind, or to assure them, if already on board, that what they think is indeed, correct.

When trying to persuade, the most important factor is the audience; the more you understand them the better. For successful persuasion, the more research that goes into analysing the audience the better. I said that twice - it is important! Simply, if you do not know who they are or what they think, want, or like, you are wasting your time.

Examples abound in marketing paraphernalia, but extend everywhere – even to convincing your boss to give you a pay rise.
